Plan of Assistance

In the event of death of a Member who is 100 kilometers or more away from his or her legal residence at the time of death, the Guaranteed Travel Assurance Plan™ (GTAP) will render every assistance, and pay for locating a local, licensed funeral home, mortuary or direct disposition facility, arranging for the transportation of the body from the site of death to the licensed funeral home, mortuary or direct disposition facility in order for such licensed funeral home or facility to prepare the body for transport, purchasing the minimally necessary casket or air tray for transport, arranging and paying for the transportation of the remains to a licensed funeral home or mortuary at the city/province of legal residence (in Canada or US) of the Member, and procuring the consular service (for death overseas) and death certificates. Important: Please note that when travelling, airline regulations and/or foreign governments may require embalming for transportation to your receiving mortuary in the area of your legal residence.

Return of remains services are provided by American Pre-Arrangement Services, Inc.(APASI) when Members are travelling more than 100 kilometers from their legal residence* or in another country which is not the country of residence. All services MUST be arranged by APASI. NO CLAIMS FOR REIMBURSEMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. The Plan of Assistance selected MUST be compatible with any pre-arranged agreement existing between the Member and the Enroller. This contract is non-transferable.

*Legal residence is defined as the place of residence for 180 or more of the days in the twelve months preceding the date of death. It will require verification through voter registration, driver's registration, and/or other means. A nursing home will be deemed the residence if the stay there has exceeded 180 days.

If enrollment in the Guaranteed Travel Assurance Plan™ occurs while the Member is away from the legal address, plan of assistance becomes effective upon the Member returning to the legal address for subsequent travel. **(At time of death) coverage cannot be guaranteed if participant dies in a location cited on the Government of Canada Travel Website for restricted travel for Canadian Citizens.

Cancellation Policy: Within 30 Days - Full refund (After 30 days - no refund)

GTAP™ reserves the right to change providers for services and add, delete or modify any of the non-transport services or benefits.
